Thirukkural – Tamil Wisdom is an app for reading, listening to and reflecting on the 1330 couplets of the Thirukkural. Your privacy is fully protected: the app is free, contains no ads or tracking, and does not sell your data.
The app stores only what you create — your favourite couplets, reflections, quiz progress, badges, streaks and preferences (language mode, theme, card styles). The Thirukkural text and audio are bundled with the app.
On iOS, your data is stored locally on your device and may sync privately across your Apple
devices via iCloud, governed by Apple's Privacy
Policy.
On Android, your data is stored locally on your device. Firebase (by Google) is used for
app analytics and crash reporting to help us improve stability and performance. Firebase may
collect device information and usage data as described in
Google's Privacy Policy.
The Android app uses Google's Gemini AI to power AI-assisted features such as kural explanations and reflections. When you use these features, your input (the kural text or your query) is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. No personally identifiable information is intentionally sent. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Gemini API Terms of Service.
The app has no login and no user accounts. We do not use advertising SDKs and do not sell your data to any third party.
Leaderboard rankings are handled through Apple Game Center (iOS) or Google Play Games (Android) using your game nickname — never your real identity. Participation is optional.
Donations are optional and processed entirely by Apple (iOS) or Google (Android) through their respective stores. We never see your payment details.
If you enable reminders, the app schedules local notifications on your device. They are generated on-device and not sent through any external server.
The core app works fully offline. An internet connection is only needed for AI features, leaderboards, or processing a donation.
You can remove favourites and reflections at any time, or delete the app to remove all local data.
The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
